The answer is........ YES, BUT NO!!!! Hold on Coach.. you said yes but no.... What the heck does that mean??
So here's the deal. I attended the 2011 CF Games this year to get some idea of what these PHENOMENAL athletes are capable of and what I need to do in order to coach and train athletes to compete at that level. It was phenomenal to see Rich Froning take Fittest Man on the Planet and Annie T (I can NOT spell your last name without looking it up Annie... sorry) Take fittest woman on the planet. Truly an honor to be a part of this awesome community. But now the question comes up.. if that's what CrossFit is.. I don't know if I can do it... RIGHT??? Because that shit is amazing!!!
OK... Let's put the intimidation and fear factor away... because here's the deal. Much like any other sport (NFL, NBA, MLB) the best of the best are competing at that level. Here's the OTHER side of CrossFit and what it means to you who are ready to find out what it is all about....
So CrossFit, in layman's terms... is a different workout every day that involves the body in functional movements to improve the ability to live life. We want you to PERFORM better and FEEL better and LOOKS are a SIDE NOTE from performing and feeling better. We understand the mechanics of the human body and know that limited range of motion movements, while developing a good aesthetic look, may not be optimal for performance.
We specialize in NOT specializing. In other words, we prepare you for what life might throw at you. Yes, the elites train at an extremely high level, and as you continue in your CrossFit career, you will continue to push yourself harder and harder as well. Here's the deal.. are you going to start out at an elite level... probably not. there are those, who have a sports or athletic background who will pick it up quick and excel at CF, but for the majority of us "Average" CrossFitters, we will work hard, train hard and get amazing results from just being consistent and pushing ourselves every single day!
CrossFit is scalable to ALL FITNESS LEVELS. Yes, I said all fitness levels. I don't care if you have NEVER worked out before. ANY CrossFit Affiliate will start you out at the level APPROPRIATE for YOU!! You see at our box, we have a "ramping up" program that is designed JUST FOR YOU to introduce you to the movements involved in our programming and give you a period of adjustment to the intensity we will ask of you. We want you to perform your best ALL THE TIME.... we will expect you to give your best every workout. Does that mean there will be days in which you don't feel good, you don't perform well, YES... but it also means we will be there as your coach to ensure you are BUSTING ASS with PROPER FROM throughout the workouts.
Our job as your coaches is to push, motivate and educate you. We want you to understand the way your body moves so you can become efficient. We want you to get better at the performance of LIFE. We want you to be a little nervous when you walk in for the workout of the day. We understand it's a little different than going to the big globo-gym atmosphere where no one knows you at the front desk except by number. We understand that when you get an email or a phone call from us because we haven't seen you in a few weeks, we are different and we want to see you. We know our gym is going to get you where you want to get, All you have to do.. is SHOW UP and LISTEN to your coach!!!
Look, I know the games are AMAZING.... I have the hopes of one day when I'm in the master's division, competing at the individual level... and right now competing at the team level... But here's the deal... Don't let that intimidate you or stop you from getting YOUR ASS IN GEAR, because every moment you WAIT to contact your local affiliate is another moment you could be DOING AMAZING THINGS YOURSELF.
