A very common question that comes through CrossFit is,"Will I get big and bulky/buff?" Guys usually hope for a "yes" answer while women hope for a "no" answer--both genders ask this often. Getting big for women is a huge struggle and most women in CrossFit that are bulky were that way before they started crossfitting. Men have an easier time than women at adding muscle, but even then it takes a lot of effort and special practices i.e. diet changes and large loads of weight for certain lifts and exercises. While some women put forth this effort and these special practices, it is much more difficult for them to put on additional lean muscle. Some women may wonder if they will get big due to strength days..this is highly unlikely. Even for the men. These strength days are designed to make you stronger, not bigger. Most members have noticed that performing at your best and heaviest on strength days produces better results and more PR's on future WODs. Some have even mentioned lately that they have become leaner by staying true to all strength WODs as well as the others. If you feel as though an undesired result is taking place or a desired result is not taking place, please contact your coaches...we are good at this training stuff, and we would love to do our best to guide you in the right direction. And ladies please know that if you start walking in looking like Janeen, we will definately not make fun of you. But we may challenge you to some arm-wrestling.
*Please note also that different physiques serve different purposes, Mr. Coleman and Ms. Lankowski would most likely not last very long through a CrossFit WOD. If they did, I'm sure they would puke up the buffet bar from Ma's Kitchen.
